Hey Mom
how have you been
I've been doing great
I can't complain

I have been doing
everything you taught me
but I'm not that boy anymore
so you don't have to baby me

I want to thank you
for the things you did for me
even though Dad was there
you were still the one I needed

you taught me to be tough
to stand on what i believe
not to give in to the world
but this has really influenced me

you taught me to be true
and to be honest with myself
to follow my heart at all times and
that mistakes are just lessons learned

you taught me love
the very meaning of it
I tried to find ways to not get hurt
but there was no escaping it

but Mom there was still
so much you didn't say
so much I had
to learn on my own everyday

Mom you were by my side
the whole time I cried
you reminded me that
everything will be okay

Mom I have no idea
why I'm writing this
and I didn't know why
you loved me the way you did

but I look at my son now
and I understand
I hate it when he cries
it hurts me inside

I don't see how he could do it Mom
why couldn't he hold me like that
what was wrong with me Mom
why couldn't he love back

I did everything he needed
went everywhere he went
I told him loved him
and he didn't remark on it

but mom you never
taught me to hate
you didn't teach me to despise him
so I'll Love him anyway
