It says, that everything is coming to an end, where great problems will take over everything, and change around the way the whole world works... an event known by many as the Apocalypse.
But, there have been people thinking that, in their lifetime, the entire world will end, since the dawn of man on this planet. Ever since we've had the ability to give the message of, "The world will end", we've been saying it, and although there have been great times and horrific times for the human race, it has never come to an end.
In regards to the transition of the Americas from a religious perspective, the Christians felt that their God would remove the natives, so that their people could prosper. One of the biggest killers when the Europeans began settling in the Americas, was viruses and disease that were brought over, like smallpox, typhus, measles, influenza, bubonic plague, mumps, yellow fever, and whooping cough. The people didn't even know what these really were, let alone how to control them... so if you believe in a holy superpower, it seems that omnipotent creator wanted these terrible things to happen.
Just another reason that I prefer to be an atheist.
