does anyone read books on writing style and techique? ive had different oppions on if i should read those. on one hand they help with story structure and give great ideas on how to keep all ur info together but then people tell me not to read those because it will somehow mess up ur own writing technique that makes YOU speacial as a writer. if u do agree with those type of books, than can u please tell me what ones u like best?

It doesn't matter what subject y are triing to develop. It's not god to read a book about writing. A very smart chinese author said that in order to pass from amateur to master a god schollar has to forget everything about the subject he had learned before, to be like an empty cup. If y read books on writing y will be like a "full cup" and y oun ideeas wiil not have a place and y will be like a machine. Just start writing and forget about stile or technique they don't matter.

I've read books, and articles. At first the "experts" were confusing. Then I concluded that the experts are confused. There ain't no right way. But they can be useful to find styles to experiment with, to express the various "selves" we are, the characters we want to express.

I read a few books on creative writing and they helped me a lot. When you start, it is good to learn the basics, then you develop your style by practicing. The key is that there is no golden rule how to write, you must discover your way yourself. Anyway, I read a lot, and when I find a good writing technique, I consider if I can build it in my style.

first do you have a ending, a conflict, a reason why the characters will do what they do? Do you know how life will work in your world. Is there religion, a culture? THere are not any books that i know of that tell you how to writing a epic fantasy, but just curious, do you konw what an epic is (many dont)? The more you dont know what others are doing, than you have a fresh slate on your ideas, but if you have an idea already, then read a few epic fantasies, and then start writing, writing and writing. It is like anyother thing we humans have to learn to do, it gets easier and better the more we do it. good luck
