When A Perfect Circle was being put together, they were planning on having a female vocalist. Can you imagine what Mer de Noms would have sounded like if they didn't get Maynard Keenan to do vocals? His voice is amazing and at the same time sounds so tortured. Between that and the violin pieces, Mer de Nom is my favorite Perfect Circle album and one of my all time favorite albums.
