Subject: First Week of Work - Summer Student, Legal Division of THC

Memo:
It was a wonderful and challenging week at work. Everyone is nice (and busy) but still have time to show me the ropes and help me get settled in. I've already jumped into work so to speak: drafting statement of claims and defences (something that the law school curriculum oddly fails to address), calling outside counsel and other clients in an attempt to settle claims and gather information. Soon I'm going to be working on a legal memo on marijuana grow-ops which should be an interestnig topic as well. (NB: legal research still scares me as I've done so little of it).

Random impressions:
mini garbage cans under my desk (apparently THC recycles 87% of all outgoing waste!), passwords and photo IDs to be obtained, mad rush on the TTC - business people with black berries and crazy people talking to themselves or their invisible friends, black trench coat and leather bag, breeze hitting my face at 6:30pm as I walk home a few blocks after getting off the bus, the sound of children playing in front of my building - laughing, skipping, playing soccer, jumping up and down on the playground set with parents smiling and watching amusedly...

I wish my brother was here and thriving and sharing the summer sunlight...but I can't have it all.
